    Lens replacement

Lens replacement (sometimes known as refractive lens exchange) is the one of the world’s most frequently performed surgical methods. It is very effective for patients who are aged 40 or over.

Before the surgery, your eye will be anaesthetised with drops, you will feel no pain. During the procedure, your natural lens is removed and replaced with an premium artificial intraocular lens, either trifocal or trifocal toric (IOL).

The procedure typically takes 10 minutes per eye. These lenses correct problems with your far, intermediate and near visual acuity. This surgical approach is very safe and effective and the sucess rate is very high.

    Cataract surgery

Cataracts develop slowly over several months or years. Patients complain of blurred or cloudy vision and decreased visual acuity. Surgery restores clarity and also an improvement in sharpness, brightness and your perception of colour. Cataract surgery is a surgical procedure which involves cloudy lens removal and then replacement with an artificial posterior chamber intraocular lens.

At the beginning of surgery, a surgeon makes a very small incision, 2.2 mm, at the edge of the cornea and then creates an opening in the anterior lens capsule. A small ultrasonic probe is then inserted, breaking up the cloudy lens or natural lens into tiny fragments. The fragments are then suctioned out of the capsule by an attachment on the probe tip. After the lens particles are removed, a intraocular lens is implanted and positioned into the lenses natural capsule.
